我叫任重儒，今年11岁，来自西安实验小学，是一名五年级的小学生。三年前，我随父母去了加拿大。刚到那里，什么都不习惯，周围的一切对我来说更是陌生的。由于英文不好，在学校里，我不敢主动张口和老师、同学们说话，还怕大家笑话我，所以很少交到朋友。看到同学们有说有笑，快乐的样子，我真是羡慕极了。慢慢地，在老师的帮助和父母的鼓励下，我开始讲一些很简单的英语，如“你好”，“谢谢”，“早上好”等等。

为了尽快和同学们交流，融入到大家庭中，我给自己制定了计划，也让妈妈从旁监督我。我每天坚持阅读一篇英文故事，并且大声朗读。看完后，用自己的语言讲给妈妈听。每天坚持看少儿英文节目。有意识地练习多和别人交流，有时我会主动去找邻居家的小伙伴一起出来玩。在学习的过程中，我还会把自己不会的英语单词记在一个小本上，查字典或向老师、父母请教。慢慢地，我积累了很多新的单词，也有了说英语的胆量，即使有时没有父母的陪伴，我也敢独自出门了。随着时间的推移，我慢慢地习惯了这里的生活，也熟悉了周围的环境，也交到了很多好朋友。

由于父母工作的原因，我又随爸爸、妈妈回到了中国。我非常想念我的老师和同学们。但我的学英语计划并没有因此中断，并一直坚持着。今天的我英语水平可是大大地提高了，我不仅阅读了很多的故事书，更重要的是我交到了很多异国的好朋友，我真得很高兴。

Your mom says reading is good for you, your dad says reading is good for you, and your teacher says reading is good for you. Why?

Good afternoon, honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Ren Zhongru, today I will be answering the question “why is reading good for you?” When I was younger, I didn’t like to read. I would rather clean my bedroom than read a book. One day my dad gave me a present, it was a little doggy sitting on a huge book reading. My dad smiled at me and said, “In every book you open there is something new inside and waiting for you.” And he was right! Now I love to read. So should you.

By reading, you can increase your knowledge and education. For example, by reading a history book, you can imagine yourself, living in the olden times, eating the food our ancestors ate, and living the lives they led. By reading geography books, you can travel in your mind to far away lands and countries, and learn about different cultures and customs.

Charles Tremendous Jones (a famous author) said, “There are essentially two things that will make you wiser—the book you read and the people you meet.” Reading is educational and fun, and most importantly, reading makes you smart and wise! So, let us all read!
